UNITED WAY CELEBRATES NAME CHANGE

July 26, 2024, Shawnee, OK – United Way of Pottawatomie County announces its new name, United Way of Eastern Frontier Country (UWEFC).  United Way of Pottawatomie County has served not only Pottawatomie County, but portions of Lincoln, Seminole, and Hughes counties since 1947.  The new name reflects all the communities that are served.

United Way called a Stakeholder Meeting on July 10, where partners, donors, volunteers, and supporters gathered to hear the big announcement.  Caleb Winsett, 2023-2024 UWEFC Board President, said, “It is exciting to share our commitment to reaching every corner of our service area with intentionality, ensuring that our efforts secure the resources necessary for our partner agencies to continue making a profound impact in every community they serve.”

UWEFC partner agencies are currently providing services in these rural areas.  Community Market of Pottawatomie County sends their mobile market to Seminole to distribute resources twice per month.  Gateway to Prevention and Recovery has clinical and/or prevention offices in Shawnee, Chandler, and Seminole.

United Way of Eastern Frontier Country is excited to announce its affiliation with Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library.  Within the next couple of months, families in Seminole, Wewoka, Holdenville, and other rural communities within the UWEFC service area will be able to register to receive a high quality, age-appropriate book mailed to their children monthly at no cost to the family.  For more information on the program, visit imaginationlibrary.com.

“I am thrilled by the enthusiasm surrounding our new name and our continued commitment to enhancing communities across all our service areas,” says Kevin Hanna, 2024-2025 UWEFC Board President.
